She is available for consultation and treatment sessions within the home, school, and/or daycare. She welcomes ideas, thoughts, strategies, and techniques from other professionals, parents, and teachers to best meet the needs of the children and families with whom she works.

Gina Cardillo, PhD, CCC-SLP
Certified Speech Language Pathologist and Early Intervention Specialist
gina@communicationcorner.org
Gina Cardillo specializes in early intervention.
Dr. Cardillo specializes in how family relationships and communication develop in the first 5 years of life. She uses an interdisciplinary approach to support families and professionals in early learning. Her treatment philosophy assumes the principle that all learning occurs in the context of relationships. She supports strengths‐based approaches to treat the caregiver-infant/toddler pair, through family-centered coaching, education, empowerment and reflective feedback.
In 2010, Gina graduated with a PhD and MS in speech and hearing sciences from the University of Washington. Her interdisciplinary doctoral research, under the supervision of Dr. Patricia Kuhl, explored several aspects of infant language acquisition including relationships between speech perception, emergent language and early literacy, and word learning in toddlers. She has also published research on the relationships between music and language in young children.
In addition to partnering with families as a clinician, Gina helps connect academic research on early learning to communities outside academia. She has had professional experience as an outreach specialist at the UW Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences, where she developed presentations and training workshops for educators, advocates, policy makers and parents, highlighting research on early cognitive development and the brain.
Dr. Cardillo has continued to develop courses on resilience in infants and toddlers, family engagement, and cognitive foundations of learning.
Dr. Cardillo supports continuing professional development for early childhood intervention specialists, teachers, and families on ways to integrate neuroscience and early intervention principles into everyday practice.
Please find a list below for sample workshop topics, though workshops can be tailored to meet individualized needs. Dr. Cardillo is a WA STARS approved trainer.
